Cellular Biophysics
Our main interest is in the molecular mechanisms of photoreceptor signaling and increasingly in the mechanisms of neurodegeneration in certain retinal diseases.
Our research involves the use of genetically modified mice and the use and development of state-of-the-art electrophysiological recording techniques and approaches, from single-cell recording to electroretinography (ERG) across the isolated retina and in vivo ERG.
Presently our research is focused on two main areas:
- We study the molecular mechanisms controlling the gain and kinetics of photoreceptor signaling in various light conditions, especially the calcium-controlled feedback
- We aim at developing novel therapies for age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
