In 2024, the question of AI’s creative capability is more current than ever with the quick rise of generative AI tools. Could AI surpass humans as artists in the future?

What lies at the intersection of technology and artistic expression? What does a creative process between a human and an algorithm look like? Is all artistic expression solely a human endeavor, or can computers genuinely contribute to the creative process?

Join the discussion on AI-generated art with media artist Kyle McDonald, Senior University Lecturer Tomi Slotte Dufva (Aalto University) and Professor of Computer Science Hannu Toivonen (University of Helsinki), at Think Corner on 7 May. The event is moderated by journalist Anu Partanen.

Voice in my head – media art experience at Think Corner

During the event day, the audience has the chance to experience AI-generated art piece by Kyle McDonald and Lauren Lee McCarthy at Think Corner between 10.00-20.00.

The piece explores the implications for AI (ChatGPT) to listen and intervene in your social experience in real-time, augmenting your personality. It begins with an onboarding session where you place a bud in your ear and the voice asks you to reflect on the inner voice you were born with. What if it could be more caring? Less obsessive? Less judgmental? More helpful? What if you could change your inner monologue?

As you respond to the onboarding questions, it clones the sound of your voice and uses it to speak to you. Then you go out into the world, as the voice follows along and offers commentary and direction.
