Mikko Möttönen
Mikko's research interests cover a wide variety of topics in quantum physics and technology. For example, he has studied magnetic-monopole analogues in Bose-Einstein condensates and single-electron pumping in silicon quantum dots. Currently, he is most focused on superconducting electric circuits which he has used to demonstrate the most sensitive bolometer, a quantum-circuit refrigerator, and qubits such as the unimon qubit and transmon reaching millisecond coherence time. The bolometer can be used to readout qubits with a small footprint and low energy budget and the refrigerator can potentially be used to demonstrate efficient initialization of superconducting qubits. Mikko has also co-founded two companies from his research: IQM Quantum Computers and QMIll.
