Cumulus Association is the international association of universities and colleges of art, design and media. Cumulus is a dynamic ecosystem for global mobility, knowledge exchange, and collaboration in art and design pedagogy, research, and practice. The association was established in 1990 and has 300+ members from more than 60 countries. Aalto University is a founding member and the School of Arts, Design and Architecture at Aalto University acts as the coordinating entity and hosts the secretariat.

Nordic Five Tech (N5T) is a strategic alliance of the five leading technical universities in the Nordic countries: Aalto University in Finland, Chalmers University of Technology and KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden, Technical University of Denmark and Norwegian University of Science and Technology. The alliance was established in 2006 with the goal of utilizing shared and complementary strengths and creating synergies within education, research and innovation. This is done by joint international masters programmes, shared recognition of bachelors degrees, mutual learning, peer evaluation activities, and network activities to stimulate collaboration.

Unite! aims to significantly strengthen the mobility of students and staff and to promote the quality, inclusion and competitiveness of European higher education. Global networks are initiatives from the Finnish Ministry of Education and Culture (MEC). The objectives of the initiatives are to establish new connections that strengthen Finland’s higher education, competence brand and cooperation network worldwide. Aalto University is coordinating three of the eight global networks.
FARIA is a strategic Finnish-US collaboration network, which integrates, aligns, and supports its members' joint and associated RDI actions. The main goal of FARIA is to initiate joint RDI projects aimed at cutting-edge research and innovation together with American partners. The network currently has 20 member institutions, representing 92 % of Finnish Research universities and approx. 89 % of the Finnish higher education sector’s RDI-power.

FICORE is a network of higher education institutions from Finland and India collaborating in diverse fields of science and technology. FICORE strives to provide a foundation for stakeholders in higher education, industries, policy, and research from Finland and India to engage in meaningful and impactful joint initiatives that benefit society at large. With currently interconnecting more than 90% of the actors in the Finnish academia, FICORE acts as a powerful channel for engagement with Finland for cutting-edge RDI cooperation and innovation initiatives.

The EDUCase Platform promotes practical case collaborations for education, research, innovation, and entrepreneurship skills development between Finnish and higher education institutions of the partner countries. EDUCase facilitates joint learning activities and aims to scale up collaboration with partner countries in Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. With a network of 11 universities and 15 universities of applied sciences, it represents the majority of higher education institutions in Finland.

Magalhaes is a network of European and Latin American research universities. The network was established in 2005 to enhance transatlantic student mobilities in the fields of Science, Engineering and Architecture. Aalto (Helsinki University of Technology) is one of the founding members of the network. The main activities of the network consist of enhancing transatlantic student mobilities but also developing academic collaboration between the member universities. The network activities are coordinated by Aalto University School of Engineering.

NSCN (Nordic Sustainable Campus Network) is a platform for connecting sustainability experts and faculty in Nordic higher education institutions. NSCN was created in 2011 at Aalto University and also chaired by Aalto until 2020. NSCN´s aim is to strengthen the role of sustainable development in all university operations (research, education, societal impact, campus). NSCN is also responsible for the sustainability group of NUAS.
NUAS (“The Nordic Association of University Administrators”) is a Nordic network of university administrators. NUAS aims to develop and promote collaboration in university administration/ services among Nordic universities. The network acts in collaboration with the Nordic Council of Ministers and other relevant organizations and officials. Activities are implemented within the planning groups, representing the major fields of university administration. NSCN is coordinating the NUAS Sustainability group.
