Financial aid
Students have the possibility of receiving financial aid to ensure at least a subsistence income during their time of studies.
Financial aid consists of a study grant and a state-guaranteed student loan. The general eligibility conditions for receiving financial aid include: being accepted into an educational institution, pursuing studies full-time, making progress in studies and being in need of financial aid. Citizens of Finland and, under certain conditions, of other countries may be eligible to receive financial aid.
You may apply for financial aid through the Social Insurance Institution of Finland (Kela). See their website.
More detailed information about financial aid and other student benefits is available on the Kela website. If you have questions, you can contact Kela by
- Sending a message to their e-Services (in Finnish or Swedish only)
- Calling their phone service. The service number regarding student aid is 020 634 2550. The lines are open Mon–Fri from 9.00 to 15.00
- Visiting a local Kela office or other customer service location.
You may also apply for a general housing allowance.
