Construction Workshop
The Construction Workshop offers students, researchers and teachers the space, equipment and technical staff they need to create prototypes and artistic activities. The main working areas are tasks related to architectural teaching and research.
Facilities, equipment, tools and materials
The Construction Workshop includes a woodworking hall, metalwork hall as well as an assembly area equipped with hand tools. There is a paint shop for surface treatment which can be used for brush and spray painting.
Basic wood industry machines and techniques are used in the woodworking hall. Working in the machine room requires completion of an orientation. The materials used are the different wood types, wooden boards and wood composites.
Main woodworking methods:
- sawing: circular saw and band saw
- planing: surface planer and thickness planer
- grinding: narrow belt grinding, free-hand grinding and sanding
- milling: plunge router and spindle moulder
- woodturning
- different hand tools
- painting and surface treatment
The basic machines and techniques of the metal industry are used in the metalwork hall. Working in the machine room requires completion of an orientation. The materials used are metal sheets, bars and profiles.
Main woodworking methods:
- welding: MIG welding, manual metal arc welding, TIG welding, gas welding
- sheet-metal work: cutting, bending and forming
- liquid gas forge
- drilling
- grinding
- painting and surface treatment
- laser cutting (Epilog 75w, size of the table 800 x 500 mm )
The assembly area is equipped with hand tools and supplies for different glueing, grinding and assembly tasks.
Main woodworking methods:
- assembling by glueing
- grinding and finishing the surface
There is a paint shop for surface treatment which can be used for brush and spray painting.
Work permits and orientation
The workshop managers organise an orientation at the beginning of the term or courses and grant the work permits. Working is allowed in the machine room during the service hours and requires a work permit. Users can work independently in the assembly area during evenings and weekends but need an access permit.

Service times: Mon 13.00-16.00, Tue-Fri 9.00-12.00 and 13.00-16.00
