Funding for development of online teaching: what are the options?

This article is a collection of thoughts and possible options to look at and consider when you would like to get support for development of your online teaching and teaching in general. We based this list on our own experience and discussions with our colleagues.

Aalto Online Learning - Online Hybrid Lab has been actively participating in selected funding calls with various stakeholders all over the world.  We love supporting and joining promising initiatives that focus on improving the teaching and learning in online environments. We have successfully got funding for several promising projects, like participating in Designing for Learning in the Nordic Countries (DLiNC) and in DigiEduHack, an initiative of the Digital Education Action Plan 2021-2027 of the European Commission.

Collaboration, creativity and out of the box thinking, improving online learning are at the core of our activities. If you have grant funding to apply in mind and would like a helping hand, email us!

In the next chapter we talk about options for Aalto University educators and education designers to find support for the development of online teaching. Make sure you login with your Aalto credentials to see the chapter.

Not all of the options we talk about can be applied to you instantly, so please keep an open mind while browsing through our suggestions. We also invite you to participate in the discussion and let us know if you tried any of these options and if you know about any other ways to support your online teaching development at Aalto University.

Support for developing your online teaching and digital materials could come from different places and is not always obvious.

Peer support might be beneficial for many: having an opportunity to talk with other educators who are working on similar types of materials for online courses, with whom you can exchange your experiences, who can understand your struggles and achievements as you go, allow you to create a support web of not just services and funding solutions, but also people, who are maybe even more valuable component in online teaching and learning ecosystem. It also feels good when you can share your knowledge about the path you took with others and support them in their journey of making better online courses and becoming better teachers.

Let us know what you would like to discuss or learn about online content production for your course or program. We will be happy to include it in our next articles.
