‘You've caught us in the act! That there is indeed the tennis ball throwing machine called Tennisball Mortar that we made in the Machine Design Project course. Depending on the way you look at it, it is either an extremely cool or a totally ridiculous contraption that can target over 200 kg of pull on the tennis balls that it fires. In other words, the acceleration of the tennis ball is absolutely crazy; computationally it's over 1000 g’s. The device will be staying on display at the machine shop, so we decided to come and test it once more before giving it away. We wanted to see how far we can shoot with it if we set it to the absolute maximum and use a golf ball instead of a tennis ball.’
