Digital transformation: AI, data, networks
The CKIR unit at Aalto University is at the forefront of research in digital transformation, particularly in the areas of AI, data, and networks. By addressing these critical components, CKIR's projects aim to provide valuable insights and innovative solutions that can help organizations thrive in the digital era. The work done by CKIR contributes to both academic discourse as well as practical applications driving economic growth, societal progress and environmental sustainability.
The following projects fall under this theme.
DeployAI
DeployAI is the new Artificial Intelligence flagship European project that aims to make artificial intelligence solutions more accessible and deployable across Europe for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and the public sector. Backed by a €28 million funding from the European Commission, this initiative signifies a collaborative effort to shape the future of AI deployment in Europe. The project runs between 2024-2027.
At the core of DeployAI's mission is the creation of a comprehensive AI platform for both industry and the public sector, emphasizing trust, ethics, and transparency. This platform will be vendor-independent, ensuring fair and democratic access to cutting-edge AI technologies developed in Europe, including Generative AI and Large Language Models, and enabling innovation at large scale.

CO2 DataHub Project & ESG Ecosystem
The R&D project led by Vastuu Group Oy developed methods for measuring carbon dioxide emissions throughout the supply chain of companies and cities, as well as methods for reporting and leading with reliable data.
The project ran from 2022-2023 and involved Vastuu Group Oy, VTT, Aalto University, Sitowise, Onway, and Finreim as a core team. The collaboration will continue, driven by KiraHub.

AI4Europe
The AI4 Europe consortium was established to continue building the first European Artificial Intelligence On-Demand Platform and Ecosystem with the support of the European Commission under the H2020 programme. A main activity of the project is the creation and support of a large European ecosystem spanning the 28 countries to facilitate collaboration between all Europeans actors in AI (scientists, entrepreneurs, SMEs, industries, funding organizations, citizens), with especially a research focus in mind.
The project spans a timeperiod of 2022-2026.

AI-ROT
AI-ROT proposes a comprehensive AI enhanced optimization of production lines deploying rotating machinery. A variety of AI-based methods is applied, ranging from exact representation of knowledge to highly adaptive machine/deep learning primitives.
As a result, valuable feedback for traditional engineering processes, such as design, operation and maintenance of rotation machinery, is received.
