Helsinki Institute of Physics – HIP
The Department of Applied Physics is actively involved in the jointly operated physics research institute that connects Finland to the European Organization for Nuclear Research, CERN, in Switzerland.
The Helsinki Institute of Physics, HIP, is a research institute jointly operated by Aalto University, the University of Helsinki, the University of Jyväskylä, Lappeenranta University of Technology, and the Tampere University of Technology, with national duties.
HIP's Board of Directors includes Aalto professors Mikko Alava (Physics) and Ossi Naukkarinen (VP Research). Aalto contributes to HIP in various research projects.
The mission of HIP is to carry out and promote basic and applied research within physics, develop technological applications for particle accelerator centres, and to educate researchers in physics. HIP is responsible for Finland’s cooperation with CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research.
