Digital Aura
2017-2021
The Digital Aura project is an Academy of Finland project [311090] and investigates how people can make use of digital self-presentation to connect in a physical space. The research is managed by the Arts & Magic Group at the Computer Science Department under Professor Tapio “Tassu” Takala. Felix A. Epp conducts his doctoral research as a part of this project. As part of EDG, this project focuses on practice-oriented perspective towards the design of wearables. Such a focus helps to understand how self-presentation technology might manifest in existing cultural practices and how to design for self-expression. Current work explored broader contexts of placing personal technology in public spaces and investigated clothing practices and design speculations with Finnish students.

Meaningful Data in Everyday Life
2017-2021
The essential exploration of this research relates to the aspect of meaningfulness - a part of meaning making that relates to feelings - as a resource to imagine personal informatics systems that are close to people and rooted in human relationships. More specifically, having as a departure point current efforts in data-physicalisation and personal informatics that view personal data as part of people’s lived experiences, this research has been undertaking an experience centric approach to data representations. For this project a diverse set of methods have been employed, including object-theatre, generative sessions, interviews, sketching, prototyping and more.

Integrating Physical and Digital Design Processes in Architecture
2017-2021
This research looks into the changing role of physical with the ongoing digitalization in architecture. The main goal is to provide an integrated design approach linking physical models with digital tools to improve initial design processes. This project has been progressing through a combination of research and prototyping. Produced research prototypes correlate tangible outcomes with the theoretical framework established during the first year of the project. By introducing a multidimensional comprehension of physical and digital design methods, this research aims to support the initial design and idea generation processes.
