Emerging Micropollutants Removal from Wastewater

A Hands-on International Summer School

The Emerging Micropollutants Group from the Department of Built Environment is organizing "A Hands-on International Summer School on Emerging Micropollutants Removal from Wastewater" in Aalto University, Finland.

The aim of the School is to connect motivated students from the field of water treatment and to provide a state-of-the-art practical knowledge on sampling, analysis and elimination of emerging micropollutants (including antibiotics and microplastics) from wastewaters in order to give them a starting point for a quality research.

The five-day course will include 16 hours of theoretical classes and 22 hours of experimental work in the laboratory. Each student will be a part of on-going research project and will be given an opportunity to participate in scientific article writing. A homework with compulsory report, will be provided during the school. All students will have the opportunity to present their own thesis topics, promoting exchange of knowledge and multidisciplinary discussion. In addition, visits to an underground wastewater treatment plant (Viikinmäki), Finnish Environment Institute (SYKE) laboratory of microplastics research and cultural activities will be organized for the students.

Participation expenses

There is NO registration fee for the Summer School.

Participants are responsible for their travel and accommodation costs, including health insurance and main daily meals. The organizers will provide suggestions for convenient student accommodations.
