Fabian and Jaakko Ahvenainen Fund
With a deed of donation dated 26 February 1998, Jaakko Ahvenainen donated a sum of 100 000 Finnish markkaa and 246 Kone Oy Class B shares to Helsinki University of Technology . The donation was given for the purpose of establishing a memorial fund in memory of his father, Fabian Ahvenainen, who died on 7 March 1978. He later supplemented his donation twice and also remembered the fund in his will.
In 2019, the fund was renamed the Fabian and Jaakko Ahvenainen Fund in accordance with Jaakko Ahvenainen's wishes.
Eligible grant applicants include Master's degree students and post-graduate students of the School of Engineering at Aalto University as well as persons who recently completed their Master's or postgraduate degrees and familiarized with bridge engineering, structural engineering or building physics in their studies.
The Fabian and Jaakko Ahvenainen Fund equally supports both the field of bridge engineering and the field of structural engineering and building physics in the long-term. In the assessment of applications, the purpose of the donator of initial capital to promote constructive structural engineering will also be considered.
The value and recipients of these grants and awards are decided by the dean of the School of Engineering, based on a proposal made by a three-person grant committee.
The Grant Committee declares grants available for application or awards recognition prizes without the application procedure.
The application call is announced annually on the Aalto University's website.
Grant recipients in 11.4.2024 were Eemil Heiskanen, Paula Romakkaniemi, Yifu Lan and Klaus Viljanen.
