Aalto Alumni Strategy Circle shared insights on sustainability and strategy
Sustainability in strategy was discussed at the Aalto Alumni Strategy Circle’s second after work event on 8 March 2023.
Welcome to the second Aalto strategy alumni circle after-work event on the topic of strategy and sustainability. Hear and discuss about latest insights and best practices from academics and practitioners. Leena Lankoski, Senior University Lecturer in Sustainability in Business at Aalto School of Business, will provide insights from the academic side. Panu Kärävä, who is Sustainability Customer Delivery Architect at Amazon and has worked in sustainability-related roles for global companies including Kering and Siemens, and Johanna Pynnä, Head of Corporate Strategy at Kemira, will share their experience and best practices.
This is a great opportunity to hear about the latest insights and learn about best practices as well as share experiences with your colleagues. The event is free of charge and open for all Aalto alumni who are interested in the topic of strategy.

Moderator Professor Jens Schmidt, Aalto University
Jens Schmidt is a strategy professor at Aalto University, Department of Industrial Engineering and Management and the director of the Master’s Programme in Industrial Engineering and Management. His research focuses on strategic thinking, entrepreneurial strategy and ecosystems, and he has worked on strategy development with both large and small organizations.
Leena Lankoski is a Senior University Lecturer in Sustainability in Business at Aalto School of Business. She has been working with questions of corporate responsibility and sustainability for 30 years, both in the private sector, at the United Nations, and lately in the academia. She holds a D.Sc. in Industrial Engineering and Management from Aalto University as well as an MBA from Bayes Business School, London.
Panu Kärävä has worked in sustainability-related roles for global companies including Kering and Siemens, where his tasks included developing sustainability strategies and driving sustainability based business models with guaranteed energy savings, and he is now a Senior Sustainability Consultant at Amazon Web Services (AWS). He holds an MSc degree in Mechanical Engineering from Aalto University (TKK) with a major in Energy Technology and Environmental Protection as well as an Executive MBA diploma from ESSEC and Mannheim.
Johanna Pynnä is the Head of Corporate Strategy at Kemira, where she supports getting sustainability to the core of the company’s strategy. She has earlier worked as a consultant and holds an MSc degree in Industrial Engineering and Management from Aalto University.
Who should attend?
The event is open for all Aalto alumni who are interested in the topic of strategy. The Aalto Alumni Strategy Circle is an opportunity to meet and discuss with like-minded colleagues, share experiences with them, and hear from the leading experts and practitioners about best practices.
We plan to make this a regular event with several sessions throughout the year, the following one in the mid-May on the topic Strategy and AI.
