If you are staying in Finland for more than a year (regardless of your nationality), you are required to register your place of residence and your permanent municipality of residence in Finland. You do this at the Digital and Population Data Services Agency (DVV). You find updated information about the registration practicalities at DVV website.
In stead of reserving an appointment to DVV-office, you can also complete the registration at the Aalto Welcome Fair. This is the "joint visit" alternative mentioned at DVV website. DVV personnel can process a large number of registrations during the Welcome Fair. Nevertheless, it's essential that you have prepared the documentation carefully and that you are prepared to wait for your turn for some time. Follow these instructions if you wish to register during the fair:
- Complete the registration notice of a foreigner at DVV website. Follow the instruction carefully. (In stead of reserving an appointment to DVV-office, you can also complete the registration during Aalto Welcome Fair. This is the "joint visit" alternative mentioned at DVV website.)
- Find the DVV registration point at the Welcome Fair (room M102). Take your place in the queue by using the QR-code you find on on the wall. Wait for your turn. While you wait for your turn, you can visit the exhibition booths. Follow your place in the queue on your mobile device and arrive to the registration point latest when you are 6th in line.
- Take care of the registration in a brief meeting with the official. Registration runs smoothly if you have the necessary documentation at hand.
Please note the following things to make your registration process as smooth as possible:
- DVV needs your complete address, also the apartment number, so check it before the appointment.
- DVV can also issue a Finnish personal identity code for you if you haven’t already received one from the Finnish Immigration Service or the Finnish Tax Administration.
If you have questions about the procedure and you can't find an answer on the DVV website, you can contact DVV directly. Telephone service number is +358 295 536 320 (Mon 9-15, Tue-Fri 9-12). Further information available at DVV website.
