The gender gap in mental health
Is there a gender gap in mental health? Psychological distress – which manifests as stress, anxiety, and depression – is typically associated with mental health challenges and work-related issues. Research indicates that in Western societies, women are more frequently affected by psychological distress than men, a phenomenon that may be influenced by distinct societal roles, professional demands, and family responsibilities. In this Making Waves event, prof. Jaana Suvisaari (THL) will present results from a large Finnish cohort on the factors contributing to psychological distress in the working population, with a special reference to gender differences.
