Tietotie 1 is also known as Marine Technology, and it is home to the Aalto Ice and Wave Tank. Aalto Ice and Wave Tank is a multipurpose basin ideally suited for testing ships and other maritime structures in ice conditions. The building also houses research groups in Marine and Arctic Technology and Water and Environmental Engineering.
Designed by Seppo Kasanen, Tietotie 1 has been used for research and teaching in marine engineering and hydraulic engineering since the building was completed in 1968. The building was renovated in 1986 and the ice tank was added in 1992. The department of Marine Technology got its wing after the renovation in 2016.
