Funding call for Future Makers Program 2017 – worth total M€3

Technology Industries of Finland Centennial Foundation and Jane and Aatos Erkko Foundation open a Future Makers funding call for strategic research ideas. In total, the foundations have reserved up to 3 million € for high-level research openings with relevance to the future of Finnish industries and the society.

 This call is a two-stage call and the first deadline is 18.4.2017.

Key focus areas for the call are:

  • Digitalisation: e.g. Industrial Internet, new business models and services 
  • Sustainable growth: e.g. Circular Economy, advanced materials
     

The call timetable

The funding call has two stages:

  1. Call for ideas deadline 18.4.2017 and
  2. Improving of ideas and final applications 6.6.-13.8.2017 (by invitation only based on stage 1)

How do I apply?

The applied funding can be of the order 100.000€ - 500.000€, in very high-level, ambitious projects even up to 1.000.000€. The length of the proposed projects should be 1-3 years. The leader in the project should be university. The project can also be carried out by several organizations (universities of applied sciences and research institutes) as multidisciplinary collaboration is encouraged. Partner-companies who could contribute to the project, are also encouraged to participate in the projects, but no company funding is required.

The idea-stage proposals are submitted through on-line application form(the word-forms can be found: In English Future Makers Funding Application Form (word) and Tulevaisuuden tekijät - hakulomake (in Finnish)). Call info only in Finnish.
  

Budgeting

Aalto proposals are budgeted in a consistent way. From the foundations 100% funding is applied using 30% indirect personnel costs (12 months / year) and 15% overhead from all costs (excl. subcontrating).
 

Approval

The proposals are approved by the Head of Department and the Dean. Please contact your School’s Research Liaison Officer in good time to get your proposal approved.
