New sauna space Laude opens in startup hub A Grid

Otaniemi's new public sauna, Laude, will be opened on the Aalto University Otaniemi campus. The 125 sqm sauna facility, located in startup community A Grid, has been renovated during the past year and opens during the spring 2020.

The sauna is rented out for private use and there are also sauna shifts open to everyone. Open shifts can be enjoyed on Tuesday mornings and Thursday evenings. Outside the open shifts, the sauna facilities can be booked for private use. It is also possible to book a regular weekly sauna shift.

We are looking forward to having a sauna – or actually two saunas - at A Grid! Sauna has been such an amazing part of the Finnish culture and it will be a great addition to the A Grid culture and community,” says Leigh Ewin, A Grid Community Manager.

The windows of the sauna open towards Ossinlampi and the Otaniemi gardening plots. The space consists of two saunas, changing rooms, a sauna club and a lounge, equipped with video projectors and AV systems. “The smaller sauna specializes in a two-sided 65-inch TV that makes it possible to watch the hockey world championships or for example the Eurovision final both from the sauna and the lounge area,” says Matti Karvonen, CEO of Ravintotalot Oy.

The area will be further developed and during the spring it is planned to open a terrace area with a hot tub and cooling areas in connection with the saunas.

Laude is a project developer together with Aalto University Campus & Real Estate. The operator of the sauna is Restaurant Factory, which is also responsible for the restaurant and café services of startup hub A Grid.

Due to the recent news about coronavirus the original opening date, March 16th, was decided to be postponed to a better time in the future.
