Student Services psychologist group
The Student Services psychologist group comprises Aalto’s study psychologists and the career counselling psychologist.
Contact us if you are feeling stuck with your studies or career prospects!
You can contact a study psychologist for example when you are looking for help with time management, you find yourself procrastinating, you are lacking motivation, you are looking for a study method that suits you, or you are experiencing study related stress, anxiety or burnout.
A career counselling psychologist specializes in career management issues and supports you in career and life planning, and transition to work. Career counselling supports you in self-knowledge, building a meaningful career, identifying opportunities, and making decisions.
You can drop in without an appointment for a 20 to 30-minute online or on-campus counselling session with one of us. In the counselling, we will visualise your situation, seek out suitable services for you, and make an appointment for study or career counselling with a psychologist if necessary.
The online service is open to Aalto bachelor’s and master’s degree students during autumn 2024 on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10-11. The meetings begin in a chat (click the INFO CHAT -button in the lower right corner). There we will direct you to a video connection for our remote reception.
Our on-campus service is open on Mondays at 13-15 and Wednesdays at 10-12(Starting Point of Wellbeing room, Y199c, Otakaari 1). See the updated schedule on the SPW pages.
You can book a time for individual counselling according to the instructions below. Send an email from your Aalto email address. There are usually 1-3 meetings, more if necessary, and the duration of one meeting is approx. 45 min. We will tailor the meeting to your needs and situation. All personal data collected during the counselling process will be stored for four (4) years in a confidential and information-secure manner. More detailed information is available in the attached privacy notice.
We are sometimes asked by students for a certificate of visit, a recommendation or a statement written by an Aalto study and career counselling psychologist. Students may need these for KELA (Social Insurance Institution of Finland), HOAS (student housing foundation), MIGRI (Finnish Immigration Service) or a university, who use them for determining the student’s study progress or as grounds for extending their residence permit or right to study. As a rule, however, Aalto’s study and career counselling psychologists do not write out these kinds of documents for students who have used the counselling services.
The institution or organisation requesting the document usually wants it to be written by a healthcare authority like a physician or some other official source. It is also important for students to give their own comprehensive account of the situation to the requesting party.
