Graduation
The diplomas for Bachelor of Science (Economics and Business Administration) degrees are awarded once a month. In all the questions related to graduation from the Mikkeli programme, contact [email protected].
Graduation practicalities
Steps of the graduation process - see more info on each of them below:
- Make sure your Personal Study Plan on Sisu is up to date and all parts approved by staff.
- Request graduation on Sisu by filling out a graduation request through your study plan on Sisu.
- Report also in the graduation request form your choice of a master’s programme.
- If you are eligible for tuition fees, you can apply for a MSc scholarship in the BSc graduation request.
- Answer the Finnish Bachelor’s Graduate Survey.
Before you can submit your diploma request, all your studies must be completed and their credits entered into Aalto student register system Sisu. Exceptions to this are transfer credits, especially from courses completed during student exchange. In case you are still completing other transfer credits than those from the study abroad, please inform Mari Syväoja. In the table below there is a separate column to show the deadline for the foreign transcript and the study abroad credit transfer to be completed. NOTE. Also the completion date of these transferred credits in the foreign transcript must be at latest the date of submitting the diploma request/graduation date.
The deadline for submitting the diploma request is the official date of graduation, which will be printed on the diploma. As soon – after the diploma request deadline – as all the criteria for graduation is fulfilled, the diploma process can be started by the Mikkeli study office staff. Please note that you must be enrolled as an attending student on your graduation day.
In case all the criteria for graduation is not fulfilled by the given deadline, the graduation date will automatically move to the following month.
Diploma request must be submitted by filling out a graduation request through your study plan on Sisu. Your graduation request on Sisu should be based on your up-to-date primary study plan. Creating a study plan on Sisu is compulsory because Sisu generates the degree certificate based on the study plan and the graduation request.
- Personal study plan has to be up-to-date and in order before you are able to apply graduation. Check your study plan three weeks before the deadline for applying graduation that your study plan in Sisu is an state which enables you to apply graduation. In below you can find the deadlines for this process for 2024.
- Apply for approval for modules that require approval or if you have done changes to approved selections. If you see notification “selections against the rules”, check that you have selected right courses and use free editing mode for approval. Contact Mari Syväoja by email in case there are any doubts.
- Detailed instructions for drafting the study plan and applying for approval can be found from Sisu info slides (PDF) available on the Planning your studies page. Please note that the instructions for Mikkeli students are somewhat different then for the Otaniemi students.
- Look at instructions how to request for graduation on Sisu
If there are modules in your study plan that require separate approval, are against the rules or are in some other state that prevents graduation, you can not apply graduation and the problem might take more than couple of days to resolve. If the study plan is not in order in time, the graduation will be postponed to the next possible graduation date.
When you graduate and continue your studies in Aalto University, your user account and email address remain the same. In cases when the graduate is not continuing studies in Aalto University, the user account and e-mail address remain in effect four months after your graduation day.
Please keep the Mikkeli study office informed on your contact information and send your new personal email address to us.
Degrees are registered after all the missing grades are registered. Getting the diplomas after registering the degrees takes about 3-4 weeks. All the students with the same graduation date will receive their diplomas at the same time. Information on receiving the diploma will be sent by email.

Continuing to a Master's programme on Otaniemi campus
The Mikkeli students who have been admitted to study B.Sc. degree from 1 August 2015 onwards, have the automatic study right to continue to the School of Business M.Sc. programmes in Otaniemi. However, they will be granted a study right to a MSc programme only after completing the BScBA degree and graduating from the BScBA programme in Mikkeli.
Include your choice of master’s programme in your graduation application. You need to apply for the BSc graduation on Sisu through the primary study plan that matches your right to study. The link to the instructions can be found above.
Your study right to MSc degree will be opened by the Mikkeli study office staff as soon as possible after all your BSc degree credits are in the Aalto student register. We will inform you as soon as the process is completed. After this you can complete a personal study plan for your MSc studies.
Please note that there are certain preconditions to the MSc Programmes (below). The students must also inform the Mikkeli study office when they are planning to start their master’s studies in the Master's programme (check the academic periods of Otaniemi Campus here).
If you are eligible for tuition fees, you can apply for a MSc scholarship in the BSc graduation request.
The table below describes the criteria for the Mikkeli BScBA graduates to continue studies at the Aalto BIZ Otaniemi Campus after graduating from the Mikkeli Campus. The criteria is valid for students accepted (in year 2015 or after that) to complete the B.Sc. Degree in Mikkeli and M.Sc. Degree in Otaniemi after graduating from the Mikkeli BScBA programme.
The studies described with each Master's programme need to be completed by the graduation from the Mikkeli BScBA programme and they need to be included to the B.Sc. degree studies. The students will inform the Mikkeli study office on their choice of the M.Sc. programme when applying for the Bachelor’s diploma.
More information on the criteria and courses required for the Master’s programmes can be asked from Mari Syväoja in the Mikkeli study office, so the Mikkeli study office staff will assist you until you graduate from the BScBA Program.
The guide to Master's studies for BScBA students below includes all practical information on continuing to the M.Sc. programmes and introduces the programmes in more detail.
You are allowed to follow the criteria on force at the time when the your study right began in the School of Business, or the new criteria on force, if that is more beneficial for you.

Below you can find important information on how to begin of your Master’s studies at the Aalto University School of Business Otaniemi campus. Please note that the practices between the two campuses will differ from each other. Therefore, read carefully the following information, especially the sections related to planning your studies and course registration practices.
For more information and details, please visit your Master's programme's programme pages. You can find your programme here.
-
Progamme pages and degree structure
Take a look at the programme pages and get to know the structure of the Master’s degree. You can find your programme here. On the programme pages, you can find the Master’s degree structure, the course contents of each programme and the periods when each course is lectured. By clicking the course codes on the Curriculum subpage, the course description is opened on Sisu, where you will also find the current and future teaching of that course. Here you can find instructions on how to use Sisu.
- Personal Study Plan (PSP/HOPS)
Plan your studies by creating your Personal Study Plan (PSP) on Sisu. All the Master’s students at the Aalto University School of Business have to draft an electronic Personal Study Plan in the beginning of their studies. The study plan is drafted for completing the Master’s degree, i.e you choose the courses you plan to complete in your major, minor and elective studies, and plan the timing of the studies. When your plan is ready, you should send it to your programme’s planning officer for approval. If the plan fulfills the degree requirements, the planning officer will approve the plan. If some changes are required, the planning officer will write you and give you instructions. Your programme’s Into pages and Sisu are useful tools to support your study planning. Notice that you can always make changes in your PSP, i.e you can for example change the minor module or single courses in your degree. In case you change something in your PSP, remember to send it again for approval to your planning officer. The first version you create does not have to be the final version for your Master’s degree, but you must get approval for all changes you do.
For more information on PSP and for tips on how to create one, please visit your programmes programme pages. You can also contact the planning officer of your Master’s programme (contact details below) in case of questions regarding PSP and timing of courses. -
Registration for courses and exams
You need to register for courses and exams via Sisu. The registration time for the courses is usually 28-7 days before the period begins. Registration for courses with an unlimited number of participants may also end later. Always check the registration schedule for each course on Sisu. For more information on course registration, please visit Sisu instructions. When you are enrolled to the course, you are automatically registered for the 1st exam called “course exam” (kurssitentti). However, registration for the re-exams is mandatory. The dates and times for examinations are published on Sisu. Registration for the re-exams begins at least 60 days and ends at the latest 7 days before the examination date. Make sure you register for the exams on time and always check that your registration was successful.

Feedback from BSc graduates
All Finnish universities gather student feedback from all students who have graduated with a bachelor’s degree. Your feedback is important, because it is used to develop tuition and study services and part of the university core funding is based on this feedback. Used scale is the following: 1 = I completely disagree; 2 = I disagree; 3 = I neither agree nor disagree; 4 = I agree; 5 = I completely agree. Please try to answer all of the questions to the best of your ability. If you have any technical problems or questions about the survey, please contact [email protected].
Please respond the survey here, if you have not already responded. Login via HAKA with your Aalto credentials.

GRADUATION DAY PROGRAM
More information available in spring.
ORDERING THE DIPLOMA AND THE GRADUATION DATE
Students, who have completed the requirements for the Bachelor of Science degree, must request the diploma on Sisu at latest on 26 May 2025. As the time between the May diploma request deadline and Graduation Ceremony (7 June) is short, we advise you to complete the process as early as possible. If you have got your studies completed earlier, we recommend you to request the diploma already on March-April (deadlines are 31 March and 28 April).
Due to the tight schedule, we are not able to guarantee that your diploma will be ready by 7 June 2025, if your study plan has something missing or needs modification after the 26 May 2025 deadline. In such case, you can attend the ceremony and your diploma will be mailed to you as soon as it is ready.
WHO CAN ATTEND THE CEREMONY?
You can receive your diploma in the ceremony on 7 June 2025, if you by 26 May 2025 have:
- requested for the Bachelor’s Diploma on Sisu, and
- taken care of all graduation process requirements (see the link above).
If you have completed all courses by 31 May 2025, you may be able to attend the ceremony. However, you need to contact Mari Syväoja before 27 May 2025 by email ([email protected]) to confirm, if it is ok to attend the ceremony.
In case you have already received the diploma, you do not need to bring it along. In the ceremony, you will receive an official transcript of record in the diploma folder and after the ceremony we ask you to return the folder to a staff member.
REGISTERING FOR THE GRADUATION DAY ACTIVITIES
We will prepare a seating chart for the graduates in Mikaeli. For this we need to know if you will be attending the ceremony. Registration for the ceremony and buffet need to be done at latest by 26 May 2025. Registration form will be available here in spring 2025.

FEEDBACK FOR US AND FOR THE UNIVERSITY
Kandipalaute – the Finnish Bachelor’s Graduate Survey – is a national online feedback survey that maps graduates’ satisfaction with their university and study experiences. The results are utilized in developing university education and in steering education and its financing nationally. The purpose of the survey is to collect information on learning, studying and teaching in different fields. The aim is to create an accurate idea of students’ study experiences. Student feedback is important for developing the quality of education, teaching and guidance as well as better working methods. Student feedback also affects the funding of universities, so your response will greatly benefit our program as well.
Answering the questionnaire takes about 15 minutes. By answering you can contribute to developing education at your university. The link to the questionnaire (log in with your Aalto credentials).
We are looking forward to seeing you again in Mikkeli,
BScBA staff and students
Alumni activities
BScBA alumni are invited to join the Facebook group BABAlumni (Mikkeli Campus) and sign-up for the alumni mailing list here. The BScBA Alumni Association organizes events throughout the year in order to keep in touch with fellow classmates and also meet new Babas from different classes.

Once a year, the student organization Probba and the BScBA Program organize the Career Day for current students to learn about possibilities after obtaining the Bachelor’s degree. Please contact the Mikkeli staff, if you would be interested in becoming a guest speaker for the event.
BScBA Ambassador Program
The alumni of the Mikkeli program are encouraged to participate in the BScBA Ambassador Program which supports the development of the Mikkeli program.
