Jessica Sinikoski, Communications Manager
'I came to Aalto to organise the first opening of the academic year in its history. Since then, I have been leading the Strategic Events team, part of Communications Services.
Traditions are respected at Aalto, but the university still does things boldly in its own way, creating something genuinely new and different. Events serve as a communication channel and create traditions, build a community spirit and enable cooperation. More than 600 events are organised on the campuses every year. My goal is to consider how the essence of the University can be condensed into something concrete in these events – what does Aalto look, feel and taste like?
The greatest thing about my job is the diversity: the whole community from caretakers to the president are my colleagues, and I create events for both students and Nobel prize winners. I’m inspired by the thought that through my work, I can increase the visibility of research that has an impact on society and helps people. The events may bring together parties that decide to start cooperating. So, I can in my own way be an enabler in a community that conducts world-class research.'
