4th Conference on Arts-based Research and Artistic Research
Place & Date: The 4th gathering of researchers, artists, other scholars and community members who are interested in various forms of artistic and arts-based research will take place at the School of Arts, Design and Architecture at Aalto University in Helsinki, Finland (June 28-30, 2016).
The theme of the 4th conference focuses on explorations of arts-based and artistic research in addressing issues relevant to local and global communities. In general, the conference presenters and participants will engage with the question, "What is the relationship between arts-based and artistic research and communities?" The working language of the conference is English.
Papers and presentation proposals are encouraged to explore concepts related to arts-based and/or artistic research and communities in diverse and various ways, based on myriad definitions and theoretical foundations. Papers are especially encouraged that explore how and towards what purposes we can rethink relationships between arts-based and artistic research and different communities. Both examples of research projects and conceptual and/or theoretical inquiries are welcomed.
The conference is structured on four formats:
Research paper/project presentations: 20 minutes to present research papers or projects followed by a 15-minute discussion.
Conversation circle: 30 minutes to present a topic as a conversation starter, and then lead a discussion, where audience members are encouraged to actively engage.
Student research in progress: 10 minutes to present work, followed by 10 minutes of feedback.
Invited DA student presentations: 10 minutes to present work, followed by 10 minutes of feedback.
