Making Waves
Discussing diversity and inclusiveness in our community
Internationalisation is in the core mission of Aalto University, currently the most international university in Finland and the 47th most international university in the world. An international Aalto community strengthens the Finnish society at large, not only by drawing global attention to Finland, but also by fostering collaborations with local enterprises. Additionally, the university remains deeply rooted in its national heritage, offering higher education in both Finnish and Swedish, ensuring that students of all backgrounds have access to premier educational resources.
Aalto’s degree students call more than 117 countries home, while 48 per cent of Aalto’s research and teaching staff hail from abroad. To achieve a prosperous future, Finland must continue to welcome the best talents, regardless of nationality. We at Aalto want to make sure that everyone feels at home in our community and the Finnish society more broadly.
Come and join us at this informal event and have an open discussion with Aalto Provost prof. Kristiina Mäkelä and other members of the Aalto Community on the topic of internationalisation, topical issues, and anything else that affects the inclusivity of Aaltonians.
Please note that the event is limited to 50 registrations with a first come first served basis. We limit the number of participants to allow for a more informal atmosphere, as in all previous Making Waves events. We would be happy to re-run this event if the number of interested participants greatly exceeds the limit of the space we have reserved.
For any questions about the event, please contact Enrico Glerean and/or Ida Salin. The venue is accessible via elevator, and if you need further assistance related to accessibility please get in touch. We follow the Aalto Code of Conduct.
Discussing diversity and inclusiveness in our community
Internationality has accelerated innovation and helped many Finnish companies from Aalto along their growth trajectories. Nearly half of Aalto University’s academic staff come from outside Finland, and Aalto students are from more than 100 countries.
'Whenever possible, I say yes when someone in our community invites me to an event. I'm involved in so many things, and I move around the campus a lot.'
