We are proud to offer a double degree program in partnership with Reykjavik University in Iceland. Students of the Master’s Programme in Automation and Electrical Engineering majoring in Electrical Power and Energy Engineering can apply for double degree studies at Reykjavik University. This double degree is the perfect program for electrical engineers looking to specialize in power systems and automation. Our program offers a diverse range of subjects, allowing students to expand their knowledge and expertise in the electric power field. In addition, studying and living in two different countries will provide opportunities to develop crucial cross-cultural communication and collaboration skills. The language of studies is English.
Double degree students study their first year of master’s studies (60 ECTS courses) at Aalto University and move to Reykjavik University for their second year of studies, where they will do 30ECTS of courses. During the 2nd year, the students also write their master’s theses (30ECTS) that are supervised by professors from both universities. They will graduate from both Aalto University and Reykjavik University. They will receive two master’s degrees and certificates, one from each university. By studying at two leading institutions, students will gain a comprehensive and well-rounded education in this cutting-edge field. With a unique and prestigious qualification, our double degree program enhances employability and increases eligibility for international job opportunities
Students admitted in master’s admissions can apply to the double degree programme during their first year of Automation and Electrical Engineering master's studies. Aalto BSc graduates can apply to the double degree programme when they meet the programme eligibility criteria (60 ECTS master’s studies completed by 30 June of the application year, see more detailed info below).
The double degree with Reykjavik University and Aalto University is the perfect program for electrical engineers looking to specialize in power systems and automation. This degree is packed with hands-on experience, fieldwork, and cross-cultural collaboration. It brings together economics, technology, and engineering science into one comprehensive program.
The curriculum will be drafted individually for each student with the professors of the programme based on the curriculum of Electrical Power and Energy Engineering, curriculum of Reykjavik University’s Electric Power Engineering Programme, and the student’s own interests.
Students who are chosen to the programme may apply for Erasmus+-scholarship for their studies in Iceland.

Students subject to the tuition fee will pay Aalto University tuition fee also for their second study year at Reykjavik University. The Aalto University scholarship is valid also during the second study year at Reykjavik University (students with a 100% scholarship do not need to pay the tuition fee, students with a 50% scholarship will pay 50% of the Aalto University tuition fee).

Based on these documents, Aalto University evaluates whether the applicant is able to meet the double degree eligibility criteria after the first year of studies. Students meeting the criteria will be nominated for Reykjavik University Double Degree Programme. Reykjavik University will make the selection decision and inform the students about the decisions by 30 June.
