The Aalto University and the University of Helsinki have signed a cross-institutional studies agreement (“QuantEd agreement”) that allows students of selected degree programmes to sign-up for quantum-related courses organized by the other institution. The aim of the agreement is to broaden the selection of quantum-related studies available to students and enhance student mobility between the two institutions.
The agreement concerns Aalto University students of the following Master’s programmes
- Master’s Programme in Automation and Electrical Engineering,
- Master’s Programme in Electronics and Nanotechnology,
- Master’s Programme Engineering Physics,
- Master’s Programme in Mathematics and Operations Research,
and doctoral students in the fields of
- Engineering Physics,
- Photonics and Nanotechnology,
- Radio Science and Engineering.
These students may apply for the following courses in University of Helsinki. The courses are intended to complement the courses offered by the home university.

Aalto University and University of Helsinki offer a comprehensive list of quantum-related courses through the QuantEd agreement. The above-mentioned students may apply for a study right on these courses in the other institution.
You can browse the course information in Sisu (e.g., course level, content, prerequisites, contact information of the responsible teachers) as well as the up-coming course implementations (choose the “Completion methods” tab) by clicking the course name. Most of the courses are primarily taught in English. The University of Helsinki courses are advanced level courses.
Please note that not all the courses are offered every academic year.

- Check from your own degree programme whether the course credits fit in your degree.
- Apply for a study right on the courses using the electronic form. Please note that the study right needs to be applied for well in advance.
- Once the study right has been granted, you will receive a confirmation and the instructions for registering to the courses.
- Complete the courses.
- Apply for credit transfer following the Aalto instructions.

The aim is to enable completing courses as flexibly as possible, provided there are places on the course. Any quotas are mentioned in the course descriptions. Applications may be sent any time, but it must be done in good time before the course begins. The teacher has the right to limit the number of students and set any prerequisites. If the student does not fulfil the prerequisites or the course is full, the teacher may also reject the registrations.
The right to study is valid for a year. These courses may be completed only if the student’s right to study also in the home university is valid.

Once you have completed the course(s), apply for credit transfer as specified in the instructions linked below. Follow the steps under the headline Applying for inclusion or a custom course credit through a study draft.
Attach an official transcript of records from the University of Helsinki to your credit transfer application.
The courses are entered into the student register of Aalto with the grade given by University of Helsinki.
