Master's Programme in Mathematics and Operations Research
Double degree studies in Mathematics and Operations Research
Students of the Master's Programme in Mathematics and Operations Research, major in Systems and Operations Research and Applied Mathematics are able to participate in a double degree programme together with Grenoble Institute of Engineering, France.
Double degree students study their first master’s year (60 ECTS courses) at Aalto and move to partner university for their second year of studies (30 ECTS courses + thesis 30 ECTS). They graduate from both Aalto and partner university, and receive two master’s degrees and certificates, one from both universities.
The language of studies is English.
Students admitted in master’s admissions can apply to the double degree programme during their first year in the Master's Programme in Mathematics and Operations Research. Aalto BSc graduates can apply to the double degree programme when they meet the programme eligibility criteria (60 cr master’s studies completed by 31 June of the application year, see more detailed info below).

First year studies in Aalto: 60 cr courses according to the confirmed HOPS (study plan). Second year studies in Grenoble INP: 30 cr courses + thesis (30 cr).

Students liable to pay tuition fee
Students subject to the tuition fee will pay Aalto University tuition fee also for their second study year in the double degree partner university. Aalto University scholarship is valid also during the second study year at the partner university (students with 100 % scholarship do not need to pay the tuition fee, students with 50% scholarship will pay 50% Aalto tuition fee.)
You can apply for the Grenoble INP double degree programme if
• you are a Systems and Operations Research major or Applied Mathematics major
• you are first year student (this concerns students admitted in Master’s admission)
• you will complete 60 cr according to your confirmed HOPS by 31 June of the application year, including the compulsory foreign language studies in English, if applicable. It is recommended, that the major compulsory courses are completed during the first study year
• GPA of your above mentioned Master’s studies is at least 3.0.
When applying, you don’t have to have all the required courses registered yet but your autumn (and III study period) study success gives you a good idea about whether you are able to meet the requirements or not.

- Official transcript of records of the Bachelor degree and its authorized translation
- Official transcript of records of your studies in Aalto University
- Grenoble INP Study Plan (pdf) NOTE! Professor in charge of your major must confirm your study plan.
- Motivation letter
- Curriculum Vitae
- Recommendation letter from one of your professors
- Copy of passport or ID card
- Learning agreement
- Certification of the required level of English skills (at least B2 on the CEFR scale)
Based on these documents, Aalto University evaluates whether the applicant is able to meet the double degree eligibility criteria after the first year studies. Students meeting the criteria will be nominated to Grenoble INP.
Grenoble INP will make the selection decision, and inform the students about the decisions by 30 June.
