A! Peda Intro (5 ECTS)

About this course

During this course you will explore what learning is and what the teacher's role is in the student's learning process. The course covers various themes related to organizing learning and teaching. This course is also a good opportunity to get to know other teachers at Aalto University!

The course includes mandatory on-site teaching sessions as well as independent assignments and group work between them. Teaching and learning methods on this course include e.g., introductions to new topics, group work, discussion, experimentation through practice, demonstrations and peer feedback. Participants are encouraged and expected to have an active role in the learning process.
 

Intented learning outcomes

After this course, you will be able to:

1. Identify main concepts of university pedagogy and factors affecting learning and teaching. 
2. Recognize your conceptions of learning and teaching and utilize reflection in identifying your teacher identity. 
3. Plan and implement an aligned teaching session.
4. Participate in pedagogical dialogue and work in a multidisciplinary group.  
   
    

Who can participate?

You can register for this course if you are employed by Aalto and you teach at the university.

This course is designed for participants with no prior pedagogical training, but a strong interest in teaching and learning is essential. Attendance at all sessions is mandatory, so please ensure you are available on the scheduled dates. In addition to attending teaching sessions, independent and group work is required for course completion, so make sure to allocate time for these activities in your schedule.

Approximately 25 participants can be accepted to each implementation of this course. Participants are selected based on the teaching responsibilities detailed in their application form. In case there are more applicants than can be accepted, the priority is given to people on tenure and lecturer tracks.

All applicants will be notified of their acceptance by email 2-3 weeks before the course begins.
 

Prerequisites

No prerequisites. If you have taken an equivalent 5 ECTS introductory course to pedagogy elsewhere (e.g. "O3" course offered at TKK) or you are a qualified teacher, contact the course teachers.
