Every employee at Aalto University is provided with an Aalto University user ID. You will receive an invitation email after your digital identity is created. You need to activate your digital identity to get the user ID and password. With the user ID, you can log in to Aalto’s information systems and use the internal services of the university. You can activate the user ID in the Self-service Portal at https://password.aalto.fi

All those with an Aalto ID are entitled to use email and calendar.
You are provided a secure aalto.fi email address. With the calendar, you can book meetings and reserve spaces.
Aalto IT Services offers various storage solutions and collaboration tools. Collaboration tools enable collaboration and data sharing within groups, as well as publishing data to the internet.

When you have an Aalto user ID you can connect your device to Aalto University’s network outside of the network, with the AnyConnect VPN service. This allow you to, for example, use the network’s internal services and read files stored on Aalto’s network disk.

Some of the software available for Aalto University staff has license terms that enable installation also to home computers by staff and students. These can be downloaded from download.aalto.fi.
This download.aalto.fi service can be used with an Aalto username and password. The site is restricted to be used only by Aalto staff and students that have an employment contract with Aalto University. Information on the employment contract comes automatically from HR and study information system.

Aalto IT’s information security team provides advice and expert assistance to Aalto University staff members, working groups, and units on questions concerning information security and data protection.
Every employee is responsible for their information security. If you remember some basic issues you can avoid harmful things. There are many security threats everywhere and hackers and other outside players are interested in universities, so it is very important that Aalto people are careful about security reasons. Outside players’ goal is often profit, offending things, and information retrieval.

You can print documents at Aalto University with a personal printing card. Print your jobs on both sides of the paper whenever you can and use electronic materials to avoid unnecessary printing.

Aalto IT Services provides centrally managed workstations with Linux, OS X, and Windows operating systems. All Aalto workstations use the same Aalto username and password authentication.
