Aalto Ownership Lab

Educational initiatives

Faculty affiliated with the Aalto Ownership Lab offer new education related to ownership. These courses cover various ownership topics ranging from managing personal financial decisions to understanding the role of ownership for firm behavior and performance.

Personal Finance

Finance is everywhere in daily life. We make financial decisions about what to study, where to work, where to live, and how to consume, save, borrow, invest, and insure. This course helps participants navigate these decisions. This understanding helps them to take ownership of their personal finances and achieve their life goals.

The course is taught by Professor of Ownership Samuli Knüpfer and it was offered for the first time in May 2024. It is open to all students at Aalto University.

Ownership and Governance

This course discusses different perspectives on governance systems, equity ownership structure and control, as well as the impact of ownership and governance on performance. It covers different legal and institutional settings and discusses practical governance applications in a Nordic institutional setting.

The course's instructor is Professor of Practice Salla Pöyry. The course will run for the first time in January 2025 and it is primarily targeted at Master's students in the Finance program.
