Magnificent Materials
With this book you can do fun experiments with materials on your own or with a friend. The instructions use bio-based ingredients that are from nature or recycled. The clear instructions are richly illustrated and aimed at children and youth.
Materials research is important to ensure that our limited natural resources are enough for everyone, now and in the future. These instructions have been developed and tested in courses combining chemistry and design at Aalto University.
The book contains 17 instructions.
The book is currently available only in Finnish. You can order the book from the Aalto University Shop. The English version of the book will be published in 2025.
The book has been produced by the Aalto University Bioinnovation Centre with support from the Jane and Aatos Erkko Foundation.

ENZYFUNC Seminar
Lignocellulosic biomass is considered one of the most viable alternatives to replace fossil-based raw materials for carbon-neutral advanced materials. While there are many promising methods to produce sustainable cellulosic packaging and textile materials, there is a clear need for sustainable and scalable surface functionalization methods. In this seminar, members of the ENZYFUNC research project will share insights on how to develop green, enzymatic methods for functionalize cellulosic surfaces.- Published:
