Year 2019 was Aalto University's tenth year of operations. Academic results have developed strongly in the university's key areas.

Research

  • We direct our research towards seven key areas: ICT and digitalisation, materials, art and design, business, energy solutions, living environments, and health and wellbeing.
  • The number of refereed articles in scientific journals has increased by 61% since 2010.

Art and design 7th in the world
The QS Rankings put Aalto’s art & design to 7th place and architecture to 41st place worldwide.

29 university-wide art courses
Over 400 participants from all Aalto schools attended the UWAS courses.

Artworks in important events
Paris Photo, Pitti Uomo, Ars Electronica, Venice Biennale, Triennale di Milano, Dutch Design Week, Helsinki Design Week, Cannes Film Festival, Buenos Aires Biennale of Architecture, Bozar.

Significant awards
Red Dot, Jussi and Venla awards, Young Designer of the Year, International Sound Award, Designer's Nest, Hyères, Suomi-palkinto award.

University's art collection grew
The Human Approach art concept at the School of Business contains works by nine artists, such as Pilvi Takala's video series of Slush.

Helsinki Design Week on campus
Our campus was one of the main venues for the festival in September showcasing over 40 transdisciplinary projects from Aalto University.
