Other eligibility for higher education (Field of Art and Design)

Other eligibility for higher education applies only to study options leading to a Master of Arts degree, including Nordic Master in Visual Studies and Art Education. In the field of technology or business, a relevant bachelor's degree is required.

In the field of art and design, an applicant who does not have a higher education degree may apply on the basis of sufficient knowledge and skills, gained by means of other studies and/or work experience.

Who can apply

You can apply on the basis of Other eligibility for higher education only if you have not completed (and will not complete by 31 July 2025) a degree that gives eligibility for master’s studies.

A bachelor’s degree gives eligibility for master’s programmes.
As an exception, also such ‘long-cycle’ master's degrees that have been granted without a bachelor’s degree (for instance, degrees awarded in Finland prior to the adoption of the two-cycle degree system in 2008) give eligibility for master’s programmes.

You cannot apply on the basis of Other eligibility for higher education, if you have completed (or will complete by 31 July 2025):

  • a bachelor’s degree (in any field of education) that gives eligibility for master’s studies*
  • a long-cycle master's degree that has been granted without a bachelor’s degree (in any field of education) that gives eligibility for master’s studies**

*You are eligible to apply in master's admissions if you have a bachelor’s degree. The bachelor's degree must be equivalent to 180 ECTS credits or three years of full-time study.
The degree must give eligibility to apply for master’s degree studies at university in the awarding country.
The awarding higher education institution has to be a recognised part of the official national education system of the country. It has to be accredited as a degree-granting higher education institution by the country where it is located or by a relevant international organisation (such as UNESCO).

Please note:
If you have completed a bachelor’s degree you must mark the degree on the application form and submit the bachelor’s degree certificate. In this case you cannot apply on the basis of Other eligibility for higher education. It is not enough to report only a master’s degree, if you have also completed a bachelor’s degree. Incomplete applications will be rejected.
