Learning does not happen only in classrooms or stop upon graduation. Lifewide learning includes all settings and opportunities to learn career-relevant skills across different spheres of life.
The importance of exploring and experimenting
A central design thinking rule is that you make a prototype to test your ideas. This is an important philosophy to have in the future of work where there are no final solutions. There is no need to feel that you have found the perfect job/profession for life right away.
Explore different career options online and see where our alumni have ended up. Consider different paths: industry, entrepreneurship, academia, non-profits… You can prototype your career by doing small-scale experiments while you study: talk to alumni in that field, take an extra class, volunteering, summer jobs, internships etc. The reflect on your experience The experiences you gain also help to build your network and develop your skills life-wide, outside the classroom.
Although you are the only person who knows and decides what kind of a career you want to create, career design works best in collaboration. Other people can pinpoint blind spots, see strengths that you may take for granted and help ideate career prototypes.
