On 17 June as we emerged from lockdown, the MA program in Visual Cultures, Curating and Contemporary Art (ViCCA) hosted an appropriately-socially-distanced, graduation picnic beside the Aalto University amphitheatre.
During this gathering we hosted the first ViCCA Commendations on Research of Outstanding Worth or CROW Awards. This is a commendation that is intended to be presented only occasionally, by the faculty of the MA program at ViCCA. It is offered to authors of completed MA theses which are agreed universally by ViCCA faculty to be of exceptional rigour, compelling depth, experimental ingenuity and potential impact.
There were two awards handed out this event: One was to Sheung Yiu for his MA thesis: Para-images: Cultural Ideas and Technical Apparatuses Beyond the Pictorial Surface. The second award was to Shubanghi Singh for Rest / Unrest: Notes on Loitering.
Each time the awards are given, there will be a certificate designed by ViCCA students. The inaugural awards were designed by Chang Jung-Wei (Redd)
During the same ceremony a special Senior CROW Award was given in celebration of our greatly loved colleague and mentor, Senior Lecturer, Taina Rajanti who will be retiring this year.
