Carbohydrate chemistry

The gradual replacement of synthetic plastics is imperative to reduce our societies dependency on petrochemical products. The application portfolio of cellulose and other biopolymers can be broadened through tailored chemical modification. However, such derivatization must follow the twelve principles of green chemistry. Our research is aiming at introducing additional functionality to biopolymers with a special focus on textile applications and to develop suitable analytical tools.
