Digital platforms are creating completely new markets with substantial impact on the Finnish society and economy. Digital platform economy is a profound economic and technological disruption having an effect on innovation, market competition, and firm value creation and capture. In the shift to digital platform economy, innovation policy measures can improve the competitiveness and growth of Finnish firms.
Our research project "Policy Rationales in the Shift to Digital Platform Economy" (Aalto University) studies the impacts of digital platform economy to the business and competitiveness of firms and the current state of the Finnish innovation funding. We focus on the following sectors: health and wellbeing, mobility, learning and manufacturing.
We formulate actionable strategies and policies together with practitioners and policy makers to facilitate business, innovation, and entrepreneurship in the shift to digital platform economy.
Our key research questions include:
- How do digital technologies and the platform economy change the rationales for policy intervention in business, innovation, and entrepreneurship support?
- What are the rationales for policy interventions in business, innovation, and entrepreneurship support in the shift in different industry sectors and markets?
The project is funded by Business Finland.
