Introduction to doctoral studies in the School of Electrical Engineering
ELEC's course Introduction to Doctoral Studies, 2-3 ECTS, is organized every semester. Participation in this course is highly recommended for all doctoral students of ELEC.

The seminar days consist of lectures, workshops, group work and other interactive sessions.
Attendance is required in all of the seminars of the selected option (see below). Absence on health grounds is occasionally accepted, and in this case, missing a seminar is substituted by getting familiar with the material and writing about the missed topics to the final assignment. Please inform the teachers if you are ill, preferably before the seminar.
Options for completion
Compulsory parts for all participants are: a short pre-assignment/questionnaire, Orientation days (participation in the selected parts based on own needs), Seminar 1, co-created research article assignment related to sustainability, and final assignment.
Other parts of the course you can tailor based on your own needs and interests. You can choose all topics of the course or some of them from the following options:
- Seminars 3-4 (ethics) and an assignment written partly individually and partly in groups in the seminars
- Seminar 5 (practical tips), an assignment related to the topic and discussion of the topic in groups in the seminar
- Individual assignment on selected topic + peer feedback
- Seminar 2 (CV and career workshop) and returning your CV and/or career plan
- Seminar 5 (practical tips), an assignment related to the topic and discussion of the topic in groups in the seminar
- Seminar 6 (research communications, publishing and peer review process)
- Two brief individual assignments related to writing (abstract and pop-science pitch) + feedback from the English teacher
- Seminars 3-4 (ethics) and an assignment written partly individually and partly in groups in the seminars
- Seminar 6 (research communications, publishing and peer review process)
- Two brief individual assignments related to writing (abstract and pop-science pitch) + feedback from the English teacher
- Individual assignment on selected topic + peer feedback
