Google Analytics 4 (GA4) instructions
Getting started
In GA4 we have many so called custom dimensions, that are based on available metadata, found on our pages in Drupal. These custom dimensions are very useful for filtering different subsets of pages. They can be used for filtering or as secondary dimensions in various reports in GA4. For example, if you would like to see only the data of news pages on aalto.fi, you could accomplish this by adding a filter content_type equals “news”. You could further add another filter content_language equals “en” to show only news pages in english.
Below are all the available custom dimensions. Step by step instructions on how to use these custom dimensions can be seen in the tutorial videos below.
Custom dimension name | Description |
content_all_tags | the tags assigned to a page in Drupal (primary + secondary) |
content_category | the category the page is assigned to in Drupal |
content_home | the parent hub the page belongs to |
content_hub_name | the name of the hub in Drupal (hub pages only) |
content_language | the language of the page |
content_primary_tags | the assigned primary tags to a page in Drupal |
content_relation | the hubs news and events are marked as related to in Drupal |
content_restriction | whether a page is public or marked for internal users only in Drupal |
