Organisation of Data Stewardship Services: Case Studies from Dutch, North American, and Finnish Universities

Description

Data steward refers to a person working to advise an organisation or research group on performing good data management practices or ensure the quality of an organisation’s or research group’s data assets. Given that national and institutional policies, federated national services, and research service organisations may differ, data stewardship may transpire differently in higher education institutions across the world. Despite – or precisely because – of the differences in national landscapes, there is a lot we can learn from each other by sharing information about our research environments and current stewardship initiatives.

In this webinar, we will examine different ways of organising research data services with a focus on data stewardship by introducing case studies from Dutch, North American, and Finnish universities. Our analysis focuses on the four dimensions of research data management (RDM) services borrowed from the work of Cox et al.:

  1. policy and governance
  2. research data services establishment, funding and structures
  3. advocacy, advisory, and support research data services
  4. technical research data services

The included case study universities are:

  • Netherlands: TU Delft
  • North America: Purdue University
  • Finland: Aalto University

Who can participate?

The webinar is open and free for anyone interested. Please register.

Learning outcomes

This will be followed by an open Q&A where participants can ask questions from the speakers.
