Experience and Engagement of Photographic Practices

The ubiquity of digital image-making technologies shapes our daily lives and challenges the notions of the private and public, professional and amateur, art and non-art. Yet, despite more people engaging in photography than ever before, there is a limited understanding of photography as a practice. Inviting discussions on the subject ranging from activism, non-human photography to the poetics of everyday photography, the seminar looks at new ways of understanding photography as an act, embodiment, experience and practice, and how this practice shapes our understanding of the medium. In addition to presentations, there will be a roundtable discussion on related questions such as: What is "a photographic act"? What is the relationship between photography, the viewer and the object? What kind of agency do photographic acts have?
