Saha

Saha is the first building in Otaniemi designed by Alvar Aalto, and thus the oldest building on campus. Today, the building is used as an event venue for the Aalto University Business Students.

About the building

The building houses Aalto University Business Students' (KY) event venue, that can also be rented for Aalto University Student Union (AYY) and Aalto University schools' events. Saha, with its 460 sqm, uses district heating and geoenergy. The building has a geothermal power plant producing around 100 MWh per year.

Alvar Aalto's first building designed for the Otaniemi campus was a mere cold shell around the saw line for a long time, as the building did not even have insulation. Saha served the campus of the former Helsinki University of Technology during the lively construction of the 1950s and 1960s, and later Saha was used to train the Wood Processing Technology Department students.
