I am in charge of centrally developing two of Aalto University's key research areas, namely Global Business Dynamics and Health & Wellbeing. This includes numerous and multifaceted roles -- for example, being the central coordinator and main administrative developer of Aalto's partnerships with HUS and THL. I also organize various ambitious speaking events, including Aalto M&A Forum, which is in parts linked with my own research, which is about AI, strategy, and strategic transformation such as digital transformation and M&A. Since 2017, AI has become an increasingly central part of my strategy & digitalization focus, and since 2022-2023 I have strongly increased my focus on generative AI. Other, often-recurring digital work themes are advanced analytics, cloud computing, platform business, and enterprise agility, all with various interlinkages with AI.
My other roles than those above have included e.g. representing Aalto toward corporate and government decision-makers, ministries, and innovation ecosystems. I used to be for 2015-2022 Aalto's primary board member at Health Capital Helsinki, a key innovation alliance that Aalto is a founding member of and that I participated establishing.
I worked at Aalto for several years in three consecutive Executive in Residence assignments and have had also other roles, such as leading both Aalto Health Platform (a former organization with about 100 member professors) and Aalto Health Factory.
I have earlier worked in senior roles at e.g. Wärtsilä Corporation (from which I was hired to Aalto) and Sitra, and been a researcher at several universities, including in the US and the UK. In the 2000s, I was a full professor at the University of Turku and a Head of Laboratory at the Turku Center for Computer Science. My experience covers several functions, industries, and global geographies.
