Poria Astero
Poria Astero is a highly accomplished researcher, actively involved in academic and industrial research and innovation to drive the transition towards green energy. He currently holds the position of Research Fellow at Aalto University's power system lab, where he serves as the PI of the CloudInertia project focused on the control and stability of power systems dominated by grid-forming inverters. In addition, Poria is a Principal R&D Power System Engineer at Reactive-Technologies Ltd, where he leads technical developments of an innovative digital stability platform to monitor and forecast instability in transmission and distribution grids.
With a PhD in Electrical Engineering awarded in 2012, Poria has accumulated extensive experience working across various industrial and academic sectors, contributing to the research, business, and market development of energy systems. He has led several research and innovation projects as the PI, work package leader, or task leader. Notably, Poria served as the Northern Demonstrators Work Package Leader in OneNet and iFLEX, two significant EU projects that aimed to develop an end-to-end, multi-purpose, cross-border, TSO/DSO coordinated, market-driven, and holistic solution for flexibility and new services provisions.
In addition to his research and industrial activities, Poria is also actively involved in the technical community. He serves as a technical reviewer for esteemed journals such as IEEE Transactions on Smart Grid and holds positions as an associate or guest editor for journals like IET Generation, Transmission & Distribution. Poria's expertise in the field has also led to his appointment as an expert member of the ETIPS NET Smart Grid working group.
Poria's research activities are centred on smart grids, power system stability and control, integration of renewable energy sources, power system planning, and the energy market. Furthermore, he is a certified "Senior Project Manager, IPMA Level B," possessing extensive expertise in leading demanding and complex projects.
