Yan Chen is a Professor at the School of Environment and Energy at the South China University of Technology. She received her BS and ME from Peking University, and PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Prior to her current position, she worked as a postdoctoral fellow at MIT. Her research focuses focus on rational design of new materials to enable high performance, economic energy and environment devices based on understanding and controlling the surface and interface properties under extreme conditions (electric polarization, reactive gas or liquid environment, high temperature, radiation and mechanic stress). She also works on the application of ion beam implantation in low dimensional materials for energy and electronics. The representative awards she has received include Schlumberger “Faculty for the Future fellowship” from Schlumberger Foundation (2014, 2015), “Young Scientist Award” from the International Society for Solid State Ionics (ISSI) (2019).
