As an Aalto University degree student you can complete studies also outside your own field of study. Some of the studies require an application while other studies are open for all Aalto students. You can complete either individual courses or a minor outside your own field of study.
Studies in computer and data sciences in University of Helsinki
Department of Computer Science has entered into a study cooperation agreement with master’s programmes in data science and computer science of University of Helsinki as of 1 January 2021. The agreement concerns the following groups of students:
- Master’s Programme in Computer, Communication and Information Sciences CCIS, students of School of Science.
- School of Science students in double degree programmes related to computer science (ITMO double degree programme, SECCLO and ICT Innovation).
- Students of Master’s Programme in Information Networks.
- Doctoral students in the field of computer science.
These students may apply to the following courses in University of Helsinki:
- Courses in the curriculum of Master’s Programme in Computer Science, course codes beginning with CSM.
- Courses in the curriculum of Master’s Programme in Data Science, course codes beginning with DATA.
- Courses which are open also for students other than in the above-mentioned programmes.
- Courses which supplement the curriculum and courses offered by the home university. They must not be identical or corresponding to courses offered by Aalto University.

The aim is to enable completing courses as flexibly as possible, provided there are places on the course. Any quotas are mentioned in the course descriptions.
Applications may be sent any time, but it must be done in good time before the course begins. The teacher has the right to limit the number of students and set any prerequisites. If the student does not fulfil the prerequisites or the course is full, the teacher may also reject the registrations.
The right to study is valid for a year. These courses may be completed only if the student’s right to study also in the home university is valid.

You can transfer courses from University of Helsinki in by sending an official transcript to your programme.
The courses are entered into the student register of Aalto with the grade given by University of Helsinki. After the courses have been registered in Sisu, you can add them to your study plan. Once they have been added, you can delete the study draft.
