KEYWORDS EXPLAINED

PRIMARY THESIS DEADLINE:

for to conclude the 2-year MA in Art and Media.

SUPPLEMENTARY THESIS DEADLINE:

This is the deadline you should aim for if you want to graduate by the end of the spring semester (and within 2 years) but have missed the submission date in May. Please note that the supervision ends with the completion of the oral presentation (mid-June) and you are expected to work independently after that and until thesis submission in July.
In case your process delays, there are 2 further dates in the autumn semester.

SECONDARY THESIS DEADLINE:

This is the main autumn deadline, and you should aim to submit your thesis in November if you have missed the two spring deadlines.

SUPPLEMENTARY AUTUMN THESIS DEADLINE:

This is the deadline for those who want to graduate by the end of the autumn semester but have missed all previous submission dates.

INTENTION TO SUBMIT:

You can register your intention to submit your complete thesis via MyCourses. The registration is not binding and if you miss the deadline, you can of course still submit. We ask you to register so that we can have an idea of how many students intend to submit their thesis at a specific deadline so that we can organize relevant processes. LES (Learning Services) also needs time to check your Personal Study Plan before you apply for graduation.
Please have a draft if your thesis abstract ready as this will help your supervisor find the external examiner.

ORAL PRESENTATION

This is a mandatory milestone in your thesis process. You will have the opportunity to present your completed thesis draft and gain valuable feedback you can work on before the final thesis submission deadline. Please note that you are expected to work on the feedback received independently until the submission deadline.

At this stage your supervisor gives you approval to submit your thesis (the permission is given based on the thesis document as well as the presentation). The presentation could happen in a public setting or in a more informal setting with your supervisor. The external examiner cannot be present. Please discuss what would be the most useful format for your presentation with your supervisor before or when you register your intention to submit.

THESIS DEADLINE/HAND-IN :

As you are studying a 2-year MA Programme, your primary thesis submission deadline/thesis hand-in is in May. This follows the completion of your thesis seminar and the thesis supervision you receive from your advisor/supervisor in the spring semester of your second year. If your process delays, there are other opportunities to submit the thesis (July, November, December – see above for more details.)

The thesis is submitted in the eAge system (please see "Submitting the thesis for evaluation and electronical archiving" below). Further details can be found in the Thesis Guide below.

EVALUATION PROCESS AND GRADE DECISION

Your supervisor and external examiner read and evaluate your thesis. They submit a statement with their grade proposal to the Programme Committee. The Programme Committee discusses all grade proposals and makes a decision on grades.

APPLYING FOR GRADUATION

You have to apply for graduation separately in Sisu. If you have already completed all your courses and your Personal Study Plan on Sisu has been approved, apply for graduation the same day in which you submit your thesis. The thesis submission deadline is your graduation date. If you still have to complete any courses as part of your degree, do not forget to apply for graduation once you have acquired all the 120 ECTS of your MA in Art and Media. There are multiple deadlines throughout the year in which you can do so. You can find information here.

Completing your master's thesis
