RELab's Main Instruments

RELab, located at the Otaniemi campus of Aalto University in Espoo, Finland, houses a number of instruments and equipment to help students and researchers with their academic and applied research and project work. RELab contains instruments related to solar and wind energy. Further, it is continually expanding the range of instruments in order to further enhance the prospects of renewable energy and energy conversion.
EcoFlow Solar Panel 220W
EcoFlow Solar Panel 220W. It has two faces which enable it to produce 25% more solar energy.

ECOFLOW SOLAR PANEL 220W

EcoFlow Solar Panel 220W is a bifacial solar panel. It is capable of producing solar energy both from the direct rays of the sun as well as from the reflected rays of the sun, because of its two faces. It is water-resistant, foldable and can be carried wherever you feel like. Owing to its bifacial nature, it has the capability to produce approximately 25% more solar energy.

Key features:

  • Rated power: Front Panel 220 W (+/- 5 W), Rear Panel 155 W (+/-5 W)
  • Open-circuit voltage: 21.8 V
  • Short-circuit current: Front Panel 13 A, Rear Panel 8.8 A
  • Efficiency: 22-23%
  • Operating temperature: -20°C ~ +85°C
Solar Panel 100W
Unifacial Solar Panel. Its rated power is 100 W.

SOLAR PANEL 100W

The unifacial solar panel is capable of producing 100 W of power. Its rated voltage is 12 V.

Key features:

  • Rated power: 100 W
  • Rated voltage: 12 V
Air Speed ISTA Breeze 500W
Horizontal Axis Wind Turbine ISTA Breeze 500W. Max blade rotating speed is 1700 rpm and max output power is 540 W.

HORIZONTAL AXIS WIND TURBINE ISTA BREEZE 500W

Developed in Germany, the horizontal wind turbine from ISTA Breeze contains an aluminium frame that cools better and faster than a composite frame. The shaft is made up of stainless steel and low-friction bearings. Designed for heavy use, this turbine is recommended for use as a back-up in power-plants and standalone use in summer cottages and boats.

Key features:

  • Cut-in wind speed: 3 m/s
  • Ideal wind speed: 17-20 m/s
  • Cut-out wind speed: 45 m/s
  • Rated power: 420 W
  • Max power: 540 W
  • Rated voltage: 12 V
  • Turbine blade rotating speed: 550-1700 rpm
  • Operating temperature: -30°C ~ +60°C
VEVOR Lantern Wind Turbine 100W
Vertical Axis Wind Turbine VEVOR Lantern 100W. Rated blade rotating speed is 1100 rpm and rated output power is 100 W.

VERTICAL AXIS WIND TURBINE VEVOR LANTERN 100W

The vertical axis wind turbine from VEVOR looks like a lantern. It has ultra-low noise, low cut-in wind speed and high security. The blades of this wind turbine are made of fibre nylon which is light-weight, corrosion-proof and has a strong ability of intensity. The wind turbine is equipped with an output indicator which flashes during the turbine's operation to indicate running status of the generator.

Key features:

  • Cut-in wind speed: 2 m/s
  • Rated wind speed: 11 m/s
  • Cut-out wind speed: 45 m/s
  • Rated power: 100 W
  • Max power: 130 W
  • Rated voltage: 12 V
  • Turbine blade rated rotating speed: 1100 rpm
  • Operating temperature: -40°C ~ +80°C

Learn more about RELab

Inside Renewable Energy Learning Lab. Wind turbines and wind blower are visible in this photo. There is a small space, right behind these two equipment where students can relax and discuss over things related to renewable energy, in particular, and whatever they feel like discussing, in general.

Renewable Energy Learning Lab

Renewable Energy Learning Lab, or RELab in short, offers students a unique learning environment. The students can carry out hands-on experimental research with various renewable energy equipment, such as, solar panels and wind turbines.
