Nordic Master in Water and Resource Engineering joint MSc programme combines a variety of resources to create the most comprehensive degree in environmental engineering in the world.
It´s is offered by Nordic Five Tech, a strategic alliance of the five strongest technical universities in the Nordic region, with partners in Denmark (DTU), Sweden (Chalmers University of Technology & KTH), Norway (NTNU) and Finland (Aalto University). Tuition fees and scholarships
Currently Aalto University, DTU and Chalmers charge fees to non-EU/EEA students. NTNU charges no tuition fees from Nordic Master students. Some universities also charge an application fee and some have a compulsory student union fee. For more information, visit the universities' websites:

Structure of studies
The eNviro5Tech programme is in the subject area of environmental engineering and technology. The programme has two focuses: (i) understanding and sustainable management of impacts on the environment caused by human activities and (ii) the development of new technologies to address environmental challenges.
eNviro5Tech addresses some of the most pressing current political issues, such as climate change, sustainable generation of energy, management and renewal of aging urban infrastructure, provision of safe drinking water and contaminated land and waste management. Environmental engineering is an interdisciplinary science, bridging all the sciences and placing them in a social, economic and legal context. Within the discipline, there are areas of specialisation, offered through focused subject areas. Your studies will include lectures, seminars and a large amount of project work. In many courses, the preferred learning approach is problem-based learning (PBL), which is characterised by the usage of real-life situations and group work as a starting point for learning and giving students the responsibility for obtaining knowledge.
Specialisations
Studies are split between two universities within the consortium in accordance with each study track. As a student, you will transfer from one university to the other after your first year – for example, if you are accepted to study on the Water Resources Management track, you will spend your first year at Aalto University and the second year at DTU, or vice versa. Career opportunities
Environmental technologies are experiencing very strong growth and are a megatrend in technological development. For example, the environment industry had a 4% share of GDP in Germany in 2005 and it is expected to rise to 16% of GDP in 2030 (Janicke, M., and S. Lindemann (2010), Governing environmental innovations, Environ. Polit., 19(1), 127-141.). The fast growth is fueled by innovation as companies develop new products to satisfy societal demands (Janicke, M., and K. Jacob (2004), Lead markets for environmental innovations: A new role for the nation state, Global Environmental Politics, 4(1), 29-46.).
Universities must therefore develop the capacity to generate the graduates to meet increasing market demand, and must develop innovative and flexible educational products which can repond to the needs of a rapidly changing market. The Nordic countries are world leaders in the development of Environmental Policy and Technology (see Janicke and Jacob 2004). The N5T universities are ideally positioned to offer the education and tools needed for future engineers to take advantage of this Green Megatrend. Thus, a major aim of the programme is to prepare the student for a professional career through the integration of professional experience with the degree programs. This will ultimately increase quality and competitiveness, study motivation and employability.

Admission
Admissions for eNviro5Tech are processed by DTU. Applications to the programme must be submitted through the DTU admission system.
In order to apply for the Nordic Master Programme in Environmental Engineering, you must fulfil a number of requirements. These requirements apply to all applicants for the programme, regardless of which university you apply for.
- BSc degree corresponding to a minimum 180 ECTS credits in:
- Civil or Environmental Engineering or other relevant degree
- The applicant's qualifications must include a strong working knowledge of mathematics and physics, and applicants must document that they have fulfilled the following minimum requirements:
- Mathematics: 20 ECTS, including linear algebra, calculus and differential equations.
- Physics: 10 ECTS.
- Applicants with a Polytechnic (FI), Högskoleingeniör (SE) and Diplomingeniør (DK) degree may be expected to do extra course work to qualify for the programme.
- In addition, a background in chemistry (minimum of 5 ECTS) is required.
Most applicants to DTU document their English language proficiency by providing an English language test. DTU accepts applicants with the following tests and minimum scores. All English tests are verified online by DTU.

You must upload the official score sheet to your application. Please note, DTU does not receive physical or digital tests from the test providers. It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure that an official score sheet is provided by the deadline.
DTU will not make any exceptions to the minimum test scores. If conditionally admitted students cannot meet them, DTU will not be able to enrol them.
* Only IELTS Academic tests are accepted. DTU does not accept IELTS One Skill Retake.
** DTU does not accept “My Best Scores”.
- Only for Nordic citizens: Documentation from upper secondary school/ high school that the English at high school level is comparable with the English B - level in Denmark.
Evaluation criteria
Ranking
All applications are academically evaluated by the consortium's partner universities. For candidates who meet the above requirements, the ranking of students is done on the basis of student’s academic achievements. Admission is based on a joint decision by the admission board of the consortium.
