Learning and teaching in higher education (5 ECTS)
Are you a teacher at Aalto University hoping to develop your approach to learning and teaching? During the course you will deepen your knowledge on learning theories and their impact on your teaching, teaching culture of your discipline and university as an learning environment.
About this course
In the course, you will have the opportunity to deepen the knowledge acquired in A! Peda Intro. You will develop and further refine your approach to teaching and learning. This is done by exploring pedagogical research in your field and integrating your pedagogical views with theories of learning. We will also discuss the future and purpose of university teaching in a multidisciplinary group.
The course includes joint meetings, group work and discussion, and assignments between the meetings. Participating in the course requires that you are able to attend the meetings.
Intended learning outcomes
After this course, you will be able to:
- Identify different learning theories and their effects on learning and teaching.
- Examine the university as a learning environment.
- Analyse field-specific characteristics related to learning and teaching and assess the future of education in your field.
- Describe and explain your pedagogical approach and reflect on it based on pedagogical research.
- Examine your pedagogical conceptions in a dialogue in a multidisciplinary group.
Prerequisites
